(5782) Question Category: Mathematical Calculation

The parallel plate capacitor consisting of two metal plates each of area 20cm2 placed at 1cm apart are connected to the terminal of an electrostatic voltmeter. The system is charged to give a reading of 120V on the voltmeter scale. When the space between the plates is filled with a glass of dielectric constant of 5, the voltmeter reading falls to 50V. What is the capacitance of the voltmeter?. You may assume that voltage recorded by a voltmeter is directly proportional to the scale reading.

(5783) Question Category: Mathematical Calculation

A 4.0µF capacitor is charged by 12V supply and is then discharged through 1.5MOmega resistor.

  1. Obtain the time constant.
  2. Calculate the charge on the capacitor at the start of the discharge.
  3. What will be value of the charge on the capacitor, the potential difference across the capacitor and the current in the circuit be 2 seconds after the discharge starts?

Answer / Solution

UNSOLVED
